Diary entry 23/7/13

I have added posts of music videos that I personally admire to my blog and spoke about why and what ideas I am going to take from them today. I have also created a collage of multiple images of music related things to set as the background as my blog but for some reason I cant put it up at the moment, so hopefully I can do that in the next few days. Tonight I am also going to storyboard my ideas so that I can take a camera home with me to film my music video over the summer. I need to make sure I film over the summer as I need to portray a summery theme in my music video. Hopefully the weather stays nice for me to be able to do so.

This is another music video that I really like. I would probably say that this is one of my favourites due to the narrative; it tells the story of a young man who lost his leg in a bike crash and his journey on getting back to his old self and being able to ride again. I really like the long shots that set the scene of the narrative and also the fact that they capture the man in his personal surroundings. I also like the point of view shots that have been used an example of this is the camera being strapped to the mans bmx bike at the end which gives us as the audience a sense of his surroundings and makes us feel included in the journey. Another great shot can be found right at the start of the video when the man gets hit by the car and the bike falls on the floor. The camera is also placed on the floor at a canted angle giving the audience a sense of distortion.  I also like the fact the camera is slightly shaky, like it has been filmed on say a mobile phone as it gives a sense of reality and illustrates that life is not all glamorous at times.  Not only do I feel the camera shots/angles are powerful, I also really like the diegetic sound of the bikes at the start which gives the audience a clue about the narrative of the music video i.e. that it is about bmx riders and also creates a sense of realism. Even though I am not doing a narrative based music video, I feel that I can gain a lot of ideas from this video for example the shots and camera angles.

Mood board

Above is my mood board. I feel that all these images represent and reflect the genre of dance/pop music through their bright and 'in your face' colours. I have included images on objects that I wish to include in my actual music video, for example the clothes i.e the converse/vans, the sunglasses, and the bright coloured nails. I also want to make my actors looks like they are having fun and our happy in my music video (hence the picture that says 'smile'). This is important as dance/pop music is very upbeat and positive and makes people feel like they are having a great time. I have also included various pictures of glitter and also ones on people blowing glitter from their hands in the direction of the camera. I would love to include shots like this in my music video as it will create a feeling fun and messiness would all are connotations of a care free attitude. As you can see all my pictures in my mood board are of bright colour and I want this to be the same in my music video, so that a positive feeling can be clearly illustrated to my target audience.

History of music videos

Diary Entry 22/7/13

I am aiming to complete 'History of a music video' and also complete my mood board today. I feel I need to vary the way I also present my production diaries too, for example doing them on a prezi, power point or even a short video to make my blog look more interesting. I will also be personalising my blog today by adding pictures of music related objects to portray that my blog is all about music videos.

Videos that I personally admire (1)

Swedish House Mafia - Don't You worry Child

This is most definitely one of my favourite videos. I love the party/festival atmosphere that it creates via the shots of the crowds jumping and dancing around to the song. I also love the ariel shots that are captured by the helicopter as it gives the audience a feel of the location. I also admire this video as it shows the artists (Swedish House Mafia) enjoying their last gig at a festival before they go their separate ways. It shows the group having an amazing time and having a laugh with each other. These shots, especially the crowd shots make me wish I was at a festival listening to music and dancing with all my friends. It gives you that feel good feeling that a video should give you. From this video I am going to take the mid shots and close ups of the festival go-ers dancing and singing the lyrics as I feel this makes it personalised to the audience as it makes them feel really involved in the atmosphere.

Diary Entry 8/7/13

I have chosen to change my song for my music video. I have chosen this as I feel that my initial ideas for the Calvin Harris song where not feasible for someone on my kind of budget. I have now chosen to do the song by Icona Pop - I love it. I have chosen this song as I feel it is still of a similar genre i.e pop and dance, (my favourite genre) which will allow me to enjoy making my music video. Here is the link to my chosen song...
